Everything I know about communication… I learned from my cats.

Hi gang!

When it comes to effective human relationships, few things are more essential than our ability to clearly communicate our wants and needs to those around us.

Sometimes, as a coach I feel that talking about communication skills seems almost cliché – how many times have we heard it, and yet, if we are unable to express ourselves clearly and ask for what we need, we are truly setting ourselves up for headaches, heartache and misery.

If you look around your life for a frustration, upset or annoyance you are almost certain to find along side of it some breakdown in communication, some request not made (or not made clearly)or some hindered self expression.

As I watched myself and others suffer with our misunderstandings, disappointments and our fear of speaking up, I kept noticing surprising similarities between the communication drama playing out in my life and the behaviors of our cats. It kept becoming clearer and clearer until I knew I could not rest until my furry friends shared their lessons with the world.

Hence, this summer, two of my amazing interns took to shooting and editing the delightful piece of film I am about to share with you over the next 4 weeks.

Part one of this four part series explores the hazards of expecting the world to read your mind (a really crummy way to try to get what you want, by the way.)
